2012.

Hey Guys!

Since you have to post on my blog this week I figured I would let you know that the movie 2010 was AMAZING! I'd see it again in a heartbeat. It's a combination of The Day After Tomorrow, Knowing, and Titanic. I haven't sat on the edge of my seat during a movie in a long time - definitely suggest seeing it :)

The Men Who Stare At Goats

In comparison to Ewan McGregor’s other roles, the role of Bob Wilton in The Men Who Stare At Goats¸ was just not up to par. The role of Wilton is compared to other characters such as the Camerlengo in Angels & Demons, Tom Lincoln in The Island, Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars, Christian in Moulin Rouge!, and so on. Bob Wilton was too much of an everyday man for someone like Ewan McGregor to portray. Although thrown into a spiral of events and adventure, the movie was truly about the George Clooney’s character, Lyn Cassady.

Sure, there were times I laughed in the theater. How could you not with a cast including Jeff Bridges, Kevin Spacey and Nick Offerman? It could have been funnier. It could have been more dramatic. The Men Who Stare At Goats was a mediocre film about how your beliefs and faith can have more of an impact on your life and than even you would imagine – regardless of how others feel. All in all, this movie did nothing for me except make me want a small fuzzy goat of my own.

On Writing by Stephen King

I’m not usually a fan of memoirs, biographies, and other non-fiction. However, I’m actually enjoying reading Stephen King’s, On Writing. I think what I love most about this book is his snappy, sarcastic, yet truthful attitude he writes with. There are times I find myself laughing thinking, “Wow, I can’t believe he just said that.” Then within the same thought I think, “Wait, I guess that’s actually true.”

I enjoy the little rants that he goes on about writing. I especially like when he gives the reader insight as to what he was thinking when he wrote specific books of his own. I think that it’s neat when I personally learn what inspired books like Carrie, Cujo, and The Tommyknockers.

I’ve never actually thought of seeing myself as a writer, and I still don’t. Lately, however, I find myself just wondering what I want to do. King’s story about his son and the saxophone was actually inspiring. It showed me that I need to think about what I like to do in my free time and consider pursuing a career in something that I actually love to do.

Microsoft's Ultimate Gaming Console - No Restrictions or Limits

Microsoft will soon be coming out with a new gaming console – ZEUS. This console will allow a user to simply purchase and download any game from the internet right to the console. Movie downloads will also be available to rent for 24 hours. Games will be available from Microsoft, PlayStation, or Nintendo. ZEUS comes with the console itself, two controllers, and all necessary cords for use.

The console will be sleek and smaller than usual because there will be no insert for games; they will be downloaded straight to the console memory. The controllers themselves will be available to use traditionally (with A, B, C, D, Z buttons) or interactively for the Nintendo Wii downloads. There will be two cords: one power cord to plug into the wall to run the machine and one internet cord to plug into the wall if it is needed. It may not be needed because ZEUS is going to have a built in wireless internet card that will detect local networks.

ZEUS is going to be the first console of its kind because all other consoles are limited to specific games.

Curious Thoughts

(Painting: Flavor Straws, Artist: Lisa Rae Winant)

“I wonder what our child will grow up to be like,” she said, rubbing her pregnant belly and gazing up at lovingly at her husband of two years.

“Do you think they will become a CEO or an Executive of a well known company? Or live the opposite life… a nomad who lives and thinks freely for themselves, regardless of what others believe and say? Will they be a dancer? a painter? a football player? What will be their passion? Do you think it depends on whether we have a boy or a girl? Do you ever wonder what they will be like? Do you think they will love us like we already love them? I wonder constantly,” she continued on while walking over to the windowsill before turning around, waiting eagerly for his response.

“I couldn’t tell,” he remarked sarcastically, easily getting a smile out of his wife.

“Of course I wonder about our child, how couldn’t I? I believe that our baby will have a little bit of you and a little bit of me. They will be their own person and have an individuality about them that the world has never seen. Whatever their passion is, yes, they will love us because we will support them in their life. Whether we have a little boy or a little girl, the three of us will forever be connected in a bond that no one will ever be able to break. “

treat others as you would like to be treated - including animals.

As I sit here after my birthday (and Labor Day) weekend, reading over the tasks I need to complete on my blog, I wonder what picture I want to post and more importantly a topic that I’m passionate about. I immediately decide on a picture of my dog, Sebastian (see above). He is a Norwegian Elk Hound and is going on 12 years old this November.

When looking at the picture of Fat Bass (my nickname for Sebastian because he’s a little chubby), I think back to a direct quote I said not even 5 hours ago while walking on the beach – “Anyone who can beat an animal must not understand the concept of love.”

I truly wonder how a person can buy an animal for the use of fighting, beating, or to simply not take care of it. How many of you reading this has a pet of some kind? Whether it be a dog, cat, bird, rabbit, mouse, pet rock, pig… anything. Could you ever imagine not feeding it? What about taking your anger out on it by hitting or kicking it? I hope not.

How many times have you seen Sarah McLachlan’s commercial supporting the British Colombia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (http://www.spca.bc.ca/)? And how many times have you teared up? I do almost every single time – even just now finding the commercial on YouTube. This is wonderful organization that helps save animals who have been subjected to abuse. Anyone can help the cause by volunteering, donating money, or adopting an abused animal.
